Encyclies

2024 — 55min

Musical performance

A visual and musical piece for one juggling computer scientist and one wild pianist with a piercing voice.

What Adrien Mondot and Nathalie Morazin have in common is that they don't know exactly what they're looking for. But they do it with unwavering determination, the desperate conviction that there's no other possible path in life than to do what they love to do, and the desire to share it with powerful energy.

The French word encyclie refers to the wave that forms on the surface of a liquid when a body is dropped into it. This title is a way for them to summon up the joy and simple pleasure of making circles in the water.

Literally immersed in an « image-space », the piano and the two performers become the protagonists of a dreamlike stroll between abstraction and impressionism. To make visible the vibrations of the air, to feel the resonance of a chord, to see the silence and hear the darkness: this is their desire! The place they are looking for is one of stripped-down simplicity, where the image embodies the missing notes of the music.

Encyclies is the second opus of the Synesthésies series, a cycle of creations combining music and live images led by Adrien Mondot, and initiated with Piano piano in 2023.
